Queen Mary Model Ship
Limited Quantity Of This Item!
The construction of the magnificent Queen Mary marked the height of the British
shipbuilding. With her sleekness, speed and size, she soon became a model for
the rest of the world’s ship builders and a grand source for profits for
her owners during her active years of service.
Queen Mary’s construction began during the Great Depression as it began
to take hold in Europe. After a slight delay between 192 and 1934, construction
reassumed and the Queen Mary became the second 1,000-foot ship to enter service.
The sleek Normandie of the French Line was the only ship to outdo her magnificent
size. She was the third largest passenger ship ever to sail the North Atlantic
seaway and faster than any warship in service at the time.
The Queen Mary ruled the oceans with her speed and style until the outbreak
of World War II. She was docked in New York, becoming idle for six months. She
entered service again in six months as a troopship ferrying troops between Australian
and Suez until the United States entered the war. It was sailing the Atlantic
where this magnificent ship earned her nickname “the gray ghost.”
Escaping the German submarines with her incredible speed as her only weapon.
