Penduick Yacht
Penduick, built in 1898, was the first of six yachts for her owner Eric Tabarly.
He began his sea apprenticeship on the decks of Penduick in 1938, a ship he
was to spend the rest of his life with. He learned everything from maneuvers
to racing on this beautiful sailing boat.
Having been fully restored twice and more beautiful than ever on her one hundredth
birthday, her beloved owner and her were to part forever the stormy night of
June 14, 1998. Granting her father’s wishes true, Marie Tabarly became
the proud owner of Penduick on her eighteenth birthday in August 2002.
Long before her renovation in the 1980’s by the famous British architect
William Fife the Penduick was an amazingly striking and modern yacht. Her sheer
hull, cutwater bow and large trysail, mizzen and lugsails add to her sheer beauty
and speed. She sported her polyester hull long before their popularity among
the racing yachts.
Even today, all in attendance of her launch each spring applaud this beautiful
ship whenever she casts off. She remains in the Tabarly family today and takes
part in several classic yacht gatherings under the leadership of Jacqueline
and Marie Tabarly, sometimes sailing as far as the Mediterranean to take part
in the Cannes and Saint Tropez regattas.
