HMS Victory Model Sailing Ship (Painted)
The HMS Victory is the world’s oldest commissioned warship and one of
the most famous ships of all ships to ever set sail in the vast and treacherous
seas. On May 7,1765 this amazing and fierce ship set sail for the first time
with her maiden launch from the Chatham Dockyard. At this magical moment in
history, this world-renowned ship began her 200 dedicated and almost continuous
service to the Navy.
The HMS Victory began her long and hard life as a warship. She soon acquired
a veteran status with many hard fought battles in her history giving her crew
a confidence and skill level that would bring them the victory in on of the
most famous and celebrated battle of this ships long line of naval confrontations.
While sailing under the British flagship, this amazing and proud ship defeated
the Franco-Spanish fleet in the dramatic Trafalgar Spain battle on October 21,1805.
The Spanish had no hope against this powerful and fierce ship with her deadly
canons firing half a ton of iron and shooting a distance of more that half a
mile.
Seven years after this famous battle, this fierce warship was brought to Portsmouth,
England on the south coast of England, where she was to rest and retire from
her long life of battle and war. She remained here in England for 110 years
fulfilling a combination of practical and ceremonial roles.
