Bluenose Model Yacht (Painted)
This Item Is Currently Out Of Stock!
Built in honor of the original Bluenose, Bluenose II was a replica of the original
and built in the same shipyard and by many of the same expert craftsmen who
built the Bluenose in 1921. Launched on July 24, 1963 the beauty and sleekness
of Bluenose II was reminiscent of the original. Many were reminded of her speed
and many spectacular and brilliant victories in the great classical regattas
along the Eastern coast of the United States.
The original Bluenose was designed and built as a fishing boat to fish off
the Newfoundland coast, and to race for the International Trophy. When her speed
and agility were seen and recognized in her races, she soon became a legendary
racer.
Bluenose remained first and foremost a fishing boat. She spent the majority
of her years fishing the Grand Banks. During the off-season she would race,
winning all of her major races. With her extraordinary racing talent and many
exceptional wins she soon won a very special place in the hearts of yachting
and racing fans worldwide.
Due to threat during World War II, Bluenose was tied up until sold to the West
Indies trading Company in 1942. Under the command of Captain William Berring,
she sailed in the inter-island trade until 1946, when off Tahiti, Bluenose grounded,
wrecked and sank.
Bluenose II now sails as a good will ambassador for the Province of Nova Scotia
and like her predecessor is admired, honored and treasured by all who visit
her.
